Jon Favreau is apparently the frontrunner to direct a new big screen adaptation of hit stage musical Jersey Boys: The Story Of Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons.

The Iron Man director is apparently favourite with producer Graham King to direct the movie about 60s pop star Frankie Valli and his band, Variety reported.

The musical presents a documentary style story of Frankie and his band's rise to stardom and features hits including Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh What A Night and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Hugo writer John Logan has adapted the musical for the big screen.

Jersey Boys opened on Broadway in 2005 and has won a string of Tony awards. It has since opened in London's West End and around the world.

Jon worked as director on Disney adventure Magic Kingdom but has recently returned to acting, and will next appear in People Like Us and Identity Thief. He will also return as Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3, but has handed over his directing duties on the project.
