Emma Watson has revealed she did not discover she was a multi-millionairess until eight years after she was cast as Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise.
The 20-year-old actress has told Vogue her father sat her down for the "money conversation" when she was 17 or 18, but until then she had been living on an allowance of just £50 a week.
Emma said: "By the third or fourth film, the money was starting to get... serious. I had no idea.
"I felt sick, very emotional."
The young star was so overwhelmed by her fortune she immediately enrolled on a course at top British bank Coutts to learn how to manage her money.
But Emma, who claims to be "straight and boring" in the interview with the December issue of the magazine, reveals she has hardly touched her estimated £20 million fortune.
The actress lives in modest student accommodation while studying for her degree at Brown University in Rhode Island.
Emma, who recently had her hair cut into a daring elfin crop, also told how she felt restricted by her contract while playing Hermione, which banned her from cutting her hair, wearing make-up or getting her ears pierced during filming.
She revealed: "For the nine years I was on Harry Potter I was contractually obliged not to cut my hair, not to tan.
"All the normal things girls do, I couldn't. So when I got the chance to change my appearance, this is what I did."
