Eli: Bell should get Oscar nod
Ashley Bell has insisted she enjoyed pretending to summon up evil on the set of her latest film The Last Exorcism.
The actress has won praise for her performance as Nell, a young girl possessed by the devil, in the horror movie about a troubled evangelical minister who agrees to have his last exorcism filmed by a documentary crew.
"I fought so hard to get the role of Nell, every single day was a challenge, and I loved it," she explained at the film's Hollywood premiere.
The actress said she spent a lot of time delving into the world of exorcisms.
"I started preparing during auditioning. I read every book I could find that hadn't been banned, I listened to tapes, I interviewed people that had been around actual possessions.
"For the call-backs they actually had me do an exorcism in the room, there I was laying on the carpet in the middle of this casting office in West Hollywood contorting, screaming, having this man summon this thing out of me, and I just thought 'my parents would be so proud!'," she laughed.
Meanwhile the film's producer Eli Roth has issued a rallying call for leading lady Ashley to be nominated for an Academy Award.
"She's the greatest, I want an Oscar statuette for Ashley Bell please," he proudly declared at the premiere.
"The Oscar campaign for Ashley Bell starts right now, you heard it first, right here on the red carpet. Tweet it!" he ordered.
