Idris Elba and Gemma Arterton are to play an estranged couple, as they head the cast of a new film which looks at the interlocking stories of a series of characters who live in London.

Idris, whose roles have included Nelson Mandela in Long Walk To Freedom and TV's Luther, will play a former rugby superstar, Max, whose life is unravelling on the celebrity circuit.

Described as a " layered and gripping drama", A Hundred Streets is being directed by Jim O'Hanlon who has worked on House Of Saddam for the BBC, as well as Sky's detective spoof A Touch Of Cloth

Gemma plays Emma, who has a chance of sorting out Max's life if she can get her own back on track in the film - which is said to have a nod towards Oscar-winning film Crash.

The cast of characters - who share the same London streets - include a drug dealer who befriends an actor, a cabbie and a rich playboy who ends up on the run.

Gemma is currently starring in the West End musical production of Made In Dagenham.
