Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt is in talks to direct Denzel Washington in The Equalizer.
Drive's Nicolas Winding Refn had previously been in negotiations to helm the big-screen adaptation of the 80s crime series, but it was reported last month that the deal "fell apart at the last minute", due to unknown reasons.
Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Rupert, the music video and commercials director, is in early discussions to direct the action thriller.
Denzel is attached to star as Robert McCall, a former covert operations officer who dedicates his life to helping people in trouble, originally played by Edward Woodward.
The film adaptation sees McCall living the quiet life working at a Home Depot, when he somehow becomes embroiled with the Russian mob.
The movie is due to start shooting in May.
