Johnny Depp is in negotiations to star as a wealthy art dealer and part-time rogue in Mortdecai.

The Wrap said that the actor, who will also co-produce the film, is "nearing a deal" for the film adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's novel The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.

Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp is set to direct from a script penned by Eric Aronson (On the Line).

The Lone Ranger star is in talks to play Charlie Mortdecai, a wealthy art dealer and part-time rogue who attempts to recover a stolen painting which is said to contain a code to a bank account containing Nazi gold.

Johnny has Into The Woods and Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 coming up and is about to finish filming sci-fi movie Transcendence.

Lionsgate is set to make Mortdecai, The Wrap said, after the film was previously in development for years at Warner Bros, but did not get off the ground.
