Addressing the crowds as the Hollywood mogul was honoured with a star on the Walk of Fame, Johnny said the Pirates Of The Caribbean producer always had his back.

"There are few people I would rather have in my corner and he has been in my corner," Johnny said.

"There have been times in the past when I have worked with Jerry where he had my back every single time when there were people pointing things at my back that wanted to hurt me or at least fire me. Jerry saved me from that, as did dear (Pirates Of The Caribbean director) Gore Verbinski."

Before embracing the producer, who is behind movies such as Armageddon, Pearl Harbour, Bad Boys and Top Gun, Johnny added: "These days the word legend gets bandied about way too easily but not here and not today.

"My path was fortunate enough to collide with this man some years ago and certainly since my collaboration with Jerry my life has never been the same and probably won't be for a while.

"My path was a quiet little path then Jerry snatched me up and Jerry's path is eight super highways stacked up to the sky hurtling in every direction toward that infinite horizon, he's bigger than life."

He then sent crowds wild as he broke out into the voice of Pirates hero Captain Jack Sparrow to say: "One final question, where is the b****y rum? Why is the rum gone?"

Also there to see Jerry honoured on Hollywood Boulevard was superstar Tom Cruise, Confessions Of A Shopaholic actress Isla Fisher, Bad Boys star Martin Lawrence and CSI actors George Eads and Marg Helgenberger.
