Depp: I brought kids on film set
Johnny Depp has revealed how he relocated his family to Puerto Rico when he filmed The Rum Diary.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star, who plays journalist Paul Kemp in the film, was joined by his partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children - 12-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and nine-year-old son John in the Caribbean.
"I had the family down there for a couple of months. As you well know, it's almost impossible to be away from them for too long a period. You start to go a little sideways," he told Entertainment Tonight.
Johnny admitted he still enjoys taking the kids to school every day, although they are growing out of it.
"It's one of the greatest things I get to do as a dad - see that transformation from a kid to an independent kid," he said.
"They used to be like, 'Walk me in, take me into the school', and now it's, 'Stay in the car. Here's your hug, now scoot, Dad!'"
It's the second time that the 48-year-old is working with the late Hunter S Thompson's works, following his portrayal of the author in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
"There was a connection. He was my best friend," he revealed.
"He was someone I could call for advice, send some absurdist material to and he could make me laugh. In the mentor or fatherly sense, he was a great man of wisdom, and I was able to sponge a lot from him."
