Depp for Disney musical adaptation?

Johnny Depp is being linked to a role in Into The Woods

Johnny Depp is in talks to star in Disney musical Into The Woods.

He could appear alongside Meryl Streep in a film adaptation of the popular Broadway stage show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

This would be the Pirates Of The Caribbean star's first singing role since Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street in 2007.

He would also be reunited with Rob Marshall who directed the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean film, is known for his work on Broadway and also directed film versions of Chicago and Annie.

The Devil Wears Prada actress Meryl, 63, is set to play the part of the villainous witch in Into The Woods, a tale about a childless baker and his wife.

It is a mash-up of favourite fairytales and follows the couple into an enchanted wood to find the witch who put a curse on them.

Johnny, 49, is in talks to play a "sexy" variation of the fairytale wolf, who in the stage show usually doubles up as Cinderella's prince.

Into The Woods' musical score is written by Stephen Sondheim, who also penned the music for Sweeney Todd, and the screenplay is written by the 1986 musical's original creator James Lapine.

Later this year Johnny can be seen in western The Lone Ranger alongside Helena Bonham Carter, Armie Hammer and Rebecca Hall.
