Davis: Hanks is dream to work with
Viola Davis has said her Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close co-star Tom Hanks is "a tremendous human being".
The Oscar-nominated Doubt actress stars alongside Tom in the upcoming film, about a boy who loses his father in the September 11 attacks.
Viola, who also appears in new movie The Help, revealed: "There's a reason why he always plays that everyman, warm character.
"He is a tremendous human being. Very, very warm, very generous, and really normal. He loves his wife and loves his kids, he is great."
The drama, directed by Billy Elliot's Stephen Daldry, also stars Sandra Bullock, John Goodman and Sopranos star James Gandolfini.
Meanwhile, Viola, who is busy on a European tour to promote The Help, in which she plays a quietly courageous black housekeeper, said she did not realise it would be such a box office success.
"I was just motivated by fear and nerves and I was the neurotic acting student again, driving (director) Tate Taylor crazy, but hoping that people would see what I saw when I first read the script, which was the richness and the complexities of the characters," she said.
"This is one of the first movies that humanises the maid and the domestic. We really find out who they were and found out that they weren't just someone in the background who came out for two lines and said a sassy line and then went back into the kitchen.
"They really emerged and became heroes."
:: The Help is released in UK cinemas on October 26
