Daniels shot Butler in pyjamas
Lee Daniels filmed his film The Butler in nightwear, actor Aml Ameen has revealed.
The British actor, who plays the young version of Forest Whitaker's character Cecil Gaines, discovered the director's unusual choice of outfit when he had a meeting with him.
"I went for an audition in Los Angeles and met Lee Daniels, who does the whole shoot in his pyjamas by the way. That's how he rolls. He sat in his pyjamas," he said at a special screening of the film at the US Embassy in London.
Aml - who has starred in Kidulthood, Red Tails and The Bill - said it was a role he couldn't turn down. His co-stars in The Butler include Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Vanessa Redgrave, Lenny Kravitz and Liev Schreiber.
"There aren't many times when you get such a powerful piece and you get the feeling that I must get involved in this and you read the script and it spans some 80 years. I have always wanted to be part of a civil rights film in some way," said the 28-year-old.
"Fortunately they had made some changes and brought Forest in earlier to the script film and that was the beginning of my involvement. It's a great honour to be a part of this piece."
Lee Daniels' The Butler is in cinemas now.
