Critics honour Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter will be honoured at the London Critics Circle Film Awards 2013

Helena Bonham Carter is set to receive a top award from film critics.

The King's Speech and A Room With A View actress is being honoured at the 33rd London Critics Circle Film Awards.

The gong, the Dilys Powell Award For Excellence In Film, is described as the "highest honour" to be bestowed by Britain's leading film critics.

The actress, 46, whose credits include Howards End, Frankenstein, Fight Club and the Harry Potter films, said: "To be chosen for this award is a surprise and an honour. I am delighted!

"It's always nice when critics say something nice about you for a change, and especially the critics in your hometown."

Chair of The Critics' Circle Film Awards Rich Cline said: " Helena Bonham Carter is an undisputed star of British cinema and one the Critics' Circle is absolutely delighted to honour.

"Her filmography is packed with... offbeat characters, each of which she invests with an unusual spark of humanity....she gave three unforgettable film performances this past year."

The award will be presented on January 20 at London's Mayfair Hotel.

Previous winners include Dirk Bogarde, Richard Attenborough, Julie Walters, Dame Judi Dench, Quentin Tarantino and Kristin Scott Thomas.
