Cinderella star Lily James is suffering the wrath of fans after apparently mocking the Japanese accent.
The former Downton Abbey actress (26) is currently promoting her first feature film, Disney's real life adaptation of the animated classic, in Japan.
During her time there, she shared a post on Instagram, thanking her glam squad for her look, while at the ‘Shinderera’
" ‘Shinderera’ premiere in Tokyo. The final stop on our tour and it was a beautiful cold night, thank you," she wrote next to the photo.
While some followers were quick to jump and criticise, others clarified that it wasn't a racist comment, but in fact a geographically accurate description.
"Tacky racist stereotype comment is pretty gross," one said.
"This makes no sense. lol Sounds more like a racist joke that backfired..! lol"
However, one follower explained that 'Shinderera' is the correct name of the movie in Japan.
James hasn't been without controversy with the highly anticipated film, she came under fire for her tiny waist during production.
The rising star would spend all day filming in a corset and said solid foods were impossible while she was practilly sewn into the iconic blue ballgown and was restricted to a soup only diet.
