Christmas Day release for MI5
Tom Cruise will be back in big-screen action mode with Mission: Impossible 5, set to open on Christmas Day 2015.
The 51-year-old star will reprise his role as super-spy Ethan Hunt in the fifth instalment of the adrenaline-fuelled franchise, which Tom will also produce with JJ Abrams.
Christopher McQuarrie, who previously worked with Tom on Jack Reacher, will direct the film from a script written by Iron Man 3's Drew Pearce.
There are rumours that Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames could return for the movie.
The December 25, 2015 release date for Mission: Impossible 5 would follow the opening of JJ's highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII, which will be out a week earlier.
It would face box office competition from Kung Fu Panda 3 and Warner Bros' Live By Night, Ben Affleck's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's crime novel.
The fourth film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, also opened in December 2011 and went on to gross nearly 700 million US dollars worldwide.
