Carrie Fisher: I took cocaine on the set of Star Wars as Princess Leia
Immortalised in the minds of a generation of men as Princess Leia in Star Wars, Carrie Fisher has confessed to taking cocaine while on the set of The Empire Strikes Back.
Fisher, who has battled drug addiction, said that she took the class A drug while filming scenes set on the ice planet Hoth in the 1980 film.
She said: "I didn't even like coke that much. It was a case of getting on whatever train I needed to take to get high."
The actress, who was 19 when she played Princess Leia, finally realised that she was not in control of her drug habit.
She added: "I realised I was doing a bit more than other people and losing my choice in the matter."
The 53 year-old, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 24, is currently performing a one-woman play called Wishful Drinking.
She said: "I've been sober for three years now. I've been trying to get sober and stay sober for a long time. The longest stretch I've done was about eight years. Kicking drugs has been difficult. It doesn't go away, it's not like a virus.
"Relapsing again does worry me. Fortunately, the drugs I like - pills and painkillers - are hard to get. I don't have the energy for it."
