The Despicable Me star will play the patriarch of a family who relocate from the city of Brooklyn to an island, said the Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which will be co-produced by the actor, will be written by Finding Nemo's Oscar-nominated screenwriter David Reynolds, who came up with the idea with Charlie Hartsock and Vance DeGeneres.

Brooklyn Family Robinson marks a reunion for Steve and Disney, as he next stars in their family-friendly film Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Steve, who reprised his role as weatherman Brick Tamland in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues alongside Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, will next star in dark drama Foxcatcher with Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, where he plays paranoid schizophrenic and murderer John du Pont.

The 51-year-old is also attached to portray a cancer-stricken teacher in the big-screen adaptation of David Menasche's memoir The Priority List: A Teacher's Final Quest To Discover Life's Greatest Lessons, and is set to return to television in sitcom Tribeca, which he co-created with his wife Nancy.
