Pierce Brosnan has revealed that his character in A Long Way Down was inspired by real-life TV presenter Richard Madeley.
The former James Bond actor, who plays suicidal chat show host Martin Sharp in the film adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel, admitted the This Morning star became an unlikely influence on his performance.
"I looked at many [hosts], but Richard came through. I like Richard; he does such a good job with people and communicating," he told The Guardian.
Pierce then spotted Richard and his wife Judy on holiday in France, which he took as a "good sign" for the film.
"I was by myself having lunch and looking at the script and wondering who this character was and all of a sudden there was Richard, sitting with his wife, this lovely lady, Judy," he continued.
"And I did chuckle to myself. I thought: should I tell them? And I thought: no, that doesn't bear talking about, really."
Imogen Poots, Aaron Paul and Toni Collette also star in A Long Way Down, which opens in cinemas on March 21.
