Jim Broadbent and Ray Stevenson are to star in action adventure film Big Game, alongside Samuel L Jackson.

The Oscar-winning Iris star and the GI Joe: Retaliation actor have signed on for the adrenaline-fuelled movie, which has been written and will be directed by Jalmari Helander.

Samuel is already on board to star as the President of the United States, with Onni Tommila as his teenage sidekick.

The tense thriller sees Onni's character Oskari, a shy, nervous 13-year-old, help the US leader when his private jet Air Force One is shot down by terrorists. The unlikely duo have to join forces to beat their enemies and survive in the wild for 24 hours.

Director and co-writer Jalmari said: "Big Game is an action adventure story on an epic scale. I'm delighted to be taking this genre on as it has always been very close to my heart, as action-packed adventure stories contain the elements that I believe make movies that are worth watching."

Production is scheduled to start in Bavaria for eight weeks from September 12.

Jim, who has starred in films such as The Iron Lady, Bridget Jones' Diary and Moulin Rouge! amongst many others, will next be seen in Roger Michell's drama Le Week-End alongside Jeff Goldblum, and thriller Closed Circuit with Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall.

The 64-year-old will also lend his voice to a character in Postman Pat: The Movie - You Know You're The One.

Ray, who played villain Firefly in GI Joe: Retaliation, will reprise his role as Volstagg in the Thor sequel, Thor: The Dark World. He will also star in sci-fi adventure Divergent alongside Kate Winslet and Shailene Woodley.
