Brand stepping into Carrey role?
Russell Brand is rumoured to be starring in Pierre Pierre.
The British funnyman, who appeared in Adam Shankman's musical Rock Of Ages, is said to be in "early talks" to replace Jim Carrey in the comedy, reported Variety.
The comic actor - who has been filming his new TV show Brand X in the US - could be playing "an obnoxious Frenchman" who steals the Mona Lisa, and tries to move it from Paris to London. But his journey is fraught with obstacles, including a French police inspector, a serial killer and his own mother.
The comedy, which is set to be directed by Borat's Larry Charles, is scheduled to start shooting this summer.
Russell, who is dating former talent agent Isabella Brewster following his divorce from pop star Katy Perry, has a number of big-screen outings coming up including a role in Diablo Cody's as-yet-untitled directorial debut with his Rock Of Ages co-star Julianne Hough.
He will also reprise his voice role in the Despicable Me sequel, and is set to star in supernatural film The Hauntrepreneur.
