Bond's relationship with M explored
Skyfall will explore James Bond's relationship with his spy boss, director Sam Mendes has revealed.
The filmmaker said he wanted to bring out the "complexity" of M and Bond's professional relationship further in the movie.
Collider quoted the director as saying: "We've gone further into their relationship... I thought it was a master stroke when they cast Judi (Dench) way back... because the character... became this female figure, there was a maternal aspect to it.
"There was much more complexity in the relationship and I think we've taken that a little further."
He added: "Judi, to me, is one of the great actors of the English-speaking world and so it's a question of... what can we give her that will take her to another level we've never seen her before?"
The film, due for release on October 26, is set to star Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris, and Javier Bardem as a "classic Bond villain".
"I wanted somebody perhaps a bit more flamboyant, perhaps a bit more frightening (than the villains in previous films)," Sam said of Javier's character.
