Berry could not imagine Atlas role

Halle Berry broke her foot just before shooting began on Cloud Atlas

Halle Berry has said playing an Asian male doctor in Cloud Atlas was a "unique" experience.

The screen beauty is cast as six different characters, including a Maori tribeswoman, a sexually-frustrated white Jewish wife and a male Asian doctor, who are spiritually linked through time, in the movie.

"I never could have imagined being part of any film like this. Playing a white Jewish woman was one thing, but playing an Asian man like Dr Ovid was something else," The Sun quoted Halle as saying.

"I loved it. Never in my life would I have thought anybody would hire me to be an Asian man.

"The film talks about the human soul and how an evil person can be transformed into a hero, in another body, after a single act of kindness. This film is something unique - I doubt if I'll ever get the chance to be part of this kind of a project again."

Halle stars alongside Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw and Susan Sarandon in the movie, an adaptation of British author David Mitchell's novel.

The actress said she thought film bosses would give her "my walking papers" when she broke her foot two days before the start of shooting.

But, instead co-star Tom "played nurse", bringing the actress coffee and soup and staying with her during breaks in shooting when she found it difficult to move around.
