Baywatch: The cast, then and now
Published 10/03/2016 | 14:52
Cast your mind back to a simpler time; a time when everyone watched the same thing on Saturday evenings and the opening bars of a certain TV show were sure to have you bounding for the sofa.
The iconic Baywatch theme tune screamed sunscreen, sand and sex appeal, and people of all ages would crowd around the telly to watch the show.
It was pretty much a glorified, sensationalised soap opera that featured the sexiest people in the world running along the surf, rescuing victims of the Pacific tide and generally just being really, really, ridiculously good looking - and it was a smash hit in the 90s.
Well, gird your loins, because Baywatch is back and on the big screen - or at least it will be next year. It's shooting right now in Miami, Florida, and the new cast are already making an impact thanks to the paparazzi's long lenses.
But whatever happened to the stars that used to adorn teenagers' bedroom walls and who made slow-mo beach runs iconic?
Perhaps the person most associated with the show, Pammy made the 1990s red swimsuit iconic. She started her career as a Playboy model (and was the last ever nude centrefold in the magazine this year) but really found fame on Baywatch. She played CJ Parker from 1992 to 1997 and married Tommy Lee in one of the era's most scandalous unions in 1995. The couple had two children together, broke up and reconciled many times. Pam later married musician Kid Rock and producer Rick Salomon but is currently single.
Her long battle with hepatitis C was documented in the press, but happily, she announced last year that she's free from the disease. She's spent years advocating for sufferers of the illness and for animal rights while making small movie cameos, but she's said to be working on a new project with James Franco currently.
Sports Illustrated swimsuit model (and ex of Leonardo DiCaprio) Kelly Rohrbach is stepping into CJ's shoes, although she's certainly a CJ for a new millennium with her honed and toned figure.
'Summer' / Nicole Eggert
A relatively short-lived but memorable character, Eggert played the likeable but troubled lifeguard for only two seasons before Summer went off to college. These days, she;s known more for reality television tin the States, and appearing in Lifetime Christmas movies made for TV. She recently took part in Celebrity Fit Club and the plastic surgery show Botched to correct a boob job she'd had done previously. Now 44, she started a family-run ice-cream business in 2014.
Actress Alexandra Daddario will take on the role of Summer in the reboot; she's worked with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson before on San Andreas and played Woody Harrellson's character's mistress in True Detective.
'Stephanie / Alexandra Paul
Former model Alexandra dabbled in movies before taking on the role of Stephanie in Baywatch. She appeared on the show until 1997 as Mitch's love interest and was famous for looking strikingly different to the other women on the show, with her short hair and 5'10'' height. These days, Alexandra makes a living from appearing in Lifetime movies like Nicole. She's been in 14 television productions for the network, as well as a short stint on Melrose Place in 1999. She's an outspoken animal and gay rights activist and has been married since 2000.
Ilfenesh Hadera will take on the role of Stephanie; she's best known for her role in Billions which premieres on Sky Atlantic in May.
'Matt / David Charvet
French actor Charvet was a big hit on Baywatch for three seasons. He played Matt Brody but he has been quiet enough of late. After Baywatch, he appeared in Melrose Place and launched a bilingual pop career. But these days, he's best known for his marriage to American TV personality Brooke Burke. In recent years he took part on some reality shows in his native France, including La Femme Celebrities. He released his last single, Swim With The Birds, in 2010 and appeared in a French film, Prisoners of the Sun. He and Burke married in 2011 and they have two children together, and she also has two children from a previous relationship.
California dude and former tween superstar Zac Efron will be taking on the role, from on-set snaps, has seriously buffed up for the role.
'Mitch / David Hasselhoff
The artist known as The Hoff was already a star from his Knight Rider days when he stepped into Mitch's red swimming trunks as the head lifeguard. Involved in the show since the beginning, when it got cancelled after its first season, he came on board as a producer and the show ran until 1999 before it relocated to Hawaii. Since then, David has had a tumultuous career, including a reality TV series about his family, a stint on broadway and a time advertising mobile phones in the UK. Hasselhoff has a few movies in production but his last big role was in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No. He has a role in the new movie but it's not clear who David will be playing, with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson stepping in as the role of Mitch.
From The Hoff to The Rock, we're already very excited.
