Dougray Scott is rumoured to be playing Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker in The Avengers: Days Of Ultron, according to reports.
Marvel Studios is said to have shown interest in both the Scottish actor and Marton Csokas to play the villain, reported LA Times' Latino Review blog, although no official word or offers have been made yet.
There had been speculation about the new baddie, after Marvel revealed they were looking for a "physically imposing man, age range 40-50, Caucasian," for a supporting role.
The ageless and immortal Baron, who would work alongside the main baddie Ultron, is a super villain, one of the leaders of HYDRA, and an enemy of both S.H.I.E.L.D and The Avengers.
His character is tipped to introduce newcomers Quicksilver (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his sister Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), as they both work for him.
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L Jackson are all set to reprise their superhero roles in the upcoming sequel, with James Spader to play Ultron.
The Avengers: Age Of Ultron is scheduled to open in cinemas in May 2015.
Dougray, who last starred in thriller Last Passenger with Kara Tointon, appears in BBC Two comedy The Wrong Mans. The 48-year-old has been filming horror The Vatican Tapes with Michael Pena and Djimon Hounsou, and is attached to thriller Division 19 opposite Neve Campbell.
