Avatar faces an ancient challenge
A biopic about the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius is being pitted against the 3-D Hollywood blockbuster Avatar.
The 22 million dollar government-backed movie premieres in Beijing before opening later this month.
Hong Kong megastar Chow Yun-fat said Confucius would put up a good fight against James Cameron's science fiction fantasy.
"If the two films were shown at the same time, those who go to see Avatar will also go to see Confucius, and those who go to Confucius will also see Avatar," the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star said.
"They are two different kinds of movies, but they are both about humanity," the actor, 54, who is best known for iconic gangster roles in Hong Kong cinema, added.
