Atwell: I love getting physical
Hayley Atwell loved being an action woman in her new film, The Sweeney.
The Captain America actress is filming the big-screen adaptation of the classic cop show, in which she stars as Nancy opposite Ray Winstone and Plan B's Ben Drew.
"She's quite gruesome. There's a sexual brutality about her and a kind of violent streak. There's less 'lady' about her and more rough and ready, and I think an angry streak in her, so I'm having great fun with that respect and my rugby tackling skills," she admitted.
"Nancy is in biker boots most of the time and she's got guns. I think my first day on set I had to head butt someone and then smash them in the face. I got a rounders bat at one point... Without kind of glamorising it too much, there's something very satisfying about doing something so physical," she added.
Hayley is having a ball, despite the tiring night shoots and bruises.
"I'm pretty shattered, and I'm bruised from top to toe. But it's great. It's exactly the thing I was looking to do. I've got about another month filming that," she said.
The 29-year-old admitted there was some pressure to satisfy the fans.
"I hope we don't disappoint the fans," she said.
"We're not depicting the Flying Squad as bent coppers. There is - especially with Ray's interpretation - there is that element that they make up their own rules."
