Anne Hathaway will be taking on another rags to riches story in her latest film role.

The chick flick princess - star of The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries - will appear in the film adaptation of David Nicholls' popular novel, One Day, about a working-class woman's romance with a charming rich man, played by Jim Sturgess, who featured in Across The Universe.

The movie, which begins filming this summer, will be directed by Lone Scherfig, who made the Oscar-nominated An Education which launched Carey Mulligan's film career.

The project was announced by Focus Features and Random House Films.

One Day was a number one best-seller in the UK. Nicholls wrote the script for the film, scheduled to come out next year.

The book follows anti-Thatcherite northerner Emma who befriends charming wealthy student David at Edinburgh University and they spend the night together following their graduation on July 15, 1988.

The novel revisits their lives on the same day in years to follow as they move to London, David becoming a successful television presenter and Emma going from becoming a waitress to pursuing a career as a teacher and then a novelist.
