Amy Adams set to play Janis Joplin
Amy Adams is set to portray tragic 60s star Janis Joplin in a forthcoming biopic.
The 35-year-old actress - more known for playing sweetheart roles in films like Enchanted, Julie And Julia and Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian - will show cinema-goers a different side as she plays the troubled Cheap Thrills songstress.
Fearnet said producer Wyck Godfrey has confirmed Amy is signed on for the leading role in the long-awaited film.
The movie will be directed by Fernando Meirelles, who was previously at the helm of City Of God.
Deadline reports that there is no studio involved yet, and the script has been through several drafts.
There have been a number of attempts to make a Janis Joplin biopic, including one which would have seen US star Pink portraying the singer.
(500) Days Of Summer star Zooey Deschanel is reported to be playing the singer in the biographical Gospel According To Janis. It was originally scheduled to start shooting in 2007 and is now expected to be released in 2012.
