Amber Heard could be wielding some dangerous weapons as she is in talks to join Machete Kills.

The Rum Diary actress is tipped to be taking on the role of a femme fatale - "a manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio" - in Robert Rodriguez's Machete sequel, reported Variety.

The 26-year-old, who played Johnny Depp's love interest Chenault in The Rum Diary, would be the third beauty in the upcoming follow-up.

Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are also expected to reprise their roles from the first film as Agent Sartana Rivera and resistance leader Luz respectively.

Danny Trejo is returning as the titular murderous Mexican, while newcomers Mel Gibson (who has been cast as a cunning arms dealer) and Demian Bichir are poised to join the franchise's second outing.

Production on Machete Kills starts this month in Texas.

Robert has previously revealed he has planned two sequels for Machete, one of which is set in space.
