It was the week that... a new global player arrived
Globalisation, social media and the likes may have brought us all together, but it's still a very big world out there and there's always a bigger fish.
Meet Jack Ma, who became China's richest man overnight this week when his business Alibaba enjoyed the biggest IPO (stock market debut) in history.
Alibaba is an e-commerce hub that is among the top 20 most-visited sites worldwide. Some critics say it's part of a wider unstable tech bubble in Asia, but with Ma revealing plans to expand into the US and Europe, tech giants here such as Amazon, eBay and even Facebook may be looking over their shoulders.
Ma founded Alibaba in 1999. Ma's fortune is now estimated at around $25 billion. Last year, his wealth stood at around $4bn.
COLIN FARRELL LANDED A ROLE IN TOP TV DRAMA
After HBO's True Detective became one of the most talked about and acclaimed series of the year, everyone and anyone has been angling for a role in the second series, and wouldn't you know it, Colin Farrell was the first to be confirmed.
We're OK with that too - he's been relatively quiet in the past few years so it'll be great to see him front and centre again. He deserves it.
EMMA WATSON TOOK A STAND
Actress and Brown University graduate Emma Watson gave an empowering speech at the UN last weekend, campaigning for gender equality and driving home the point that everyone, men and women both, have a role in promoting an end to sexism.
However, after the speech went viral online, a website appeared declaring "You're Next Emma" alongside a countdown timer.
The site is believed to have been created by members of 4Chan, where nude photos of other celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian recently appeared, leading many to presume a threat of similar images being posted of the Harry Potter actress. However, there was no evidence at the time of going to press that such photos of Watson exist.
Movie star Jennifer Lawrence and Coldplay's Chris Martin were snapped together for the first time, stepping off a private jet in LA. Hard oul life.
THERE WAS TRASH TALK IN THE GAA
"Well Joe Brolly, what do you think of THAT?"
Kerry's Kieran Donaghy coined a new phrase after the All Ireland football win.
KRIS KALLED IT KWITS
They publicly announced their separation last year, but fans were still upset to learn that reality TV star Kris Jenner this week filed for divorce from husband Bruce, thus ending their 22-year marriage.
Kris Jenner is star of Keeping Up with the Kardashians along with Bruce and their famous K-based children. Good old "irreconcilable differences" was cited as the reason for the divorce.
