The Irish reporter who claimed Irish people didn’t know who Beyonce was has defended his comments.
The reporter, who works for top entertainment website TMZ.com, claimed the problem arose due to ‘video editing’.
During a video segment on TMZ in which Beyonce and Jay Zs' casual stroll through the Phoenix Park was brought up, Peter O’Riordan claimed Irish people didn’t know who Beyonce was.
There was no mention of how the singer had sold out four nights at the O2.
His comment attracted a torrent of controversy – with many people reaching out to the Irish reporter on Twitter.
In response, he has urged his fellow countrymen to “watch the video and education yourself first!.
“Know this I don't have creative control or editin power with tmz so I can be made out that I'm sayin something I'm not.
“Notice the cam didn't come back onto me to have the opportunity to defend.
“I'm the proudest Irish person on the map and there are plenty of people that will back me up on that. I don’t edit the tv show , nor can I speak for any of my co workers or my boss. Slan go foil,” he wrote.
