Irish actor Michael Fassbender and Philomena lead BAFTA nominations

Kerry actor Michael Fassbender is one step closer to Oscar glory.
The German-Irish actor has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his harrowing role as a brutal slave owner in 12 Years a Slave.
Fassbender has been nominated in the same category at next Monday's Golden Globe awards and is hotly tipped to win an Academy Award for his work after being snubbed in the Best Actor category last year for Shame.
Also representing Irish interest is Philomnena, which was filmed in Ireland, which has been nominated for Best Picture.
Fassbender is up against Matt Damon for Behind the Candelabr, Barkhad Abdi for Captain Phillips, Bradley Cooper for American Hustle and Daniel Brühl for Rush.
Philomena, meanwhile is fighting it out with 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips,and Gravity for Best Film.
All the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 16 February.
