But there you go – I’m sure the former snooker world champion has gained legions of fans overnight.

It’s a good line-up this year - and there are a number of strong contenders.

I’m tipping Lucy Pargeter (Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle), Olympian Rebecca Addlington, Steve Davis and your man Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Carlton, aka Alfonso Ribeiro, will win bonus points if he does THAT dance from the Fresh Prince at some stage during the series. And he seems game enough to do that.

And let’s not forget our own Kian Egan – the former Westlifer put on a brave show last night with his first celebrity trial which saw him nibbled by rats.

Our boy could go far.

Anyway, back to last night’s instalment.

Steve Davis is my new hero for putting up with TOWIE’S Joey Essex.

In case you didn’t know who I’m talking about, Joey is the wide-eyed Essex boy prancing about in tight-fitting shorts (tight-fitting shorts and trousers are his signature), his deep tan and blindingly white teeth which look suspiciously like veneers.

Astonishingly, he’s been described as this series’ eye candy – and tipped to do well. Say it ain’t so girls.

Steve encouraged him before they jumped out of a plane.

Naturally, our hero Steve went first. No panic, no screaming and he just seemed to enjoy the skydive.

When it came to Joey’s turn, he was almost prostate with fear hanging out the side of the plane, before making a series of growls and jumping. The growls continued as he tumbled through the air – quite off-putting actually if you were enjoying a mug of tea.

Later, Steve informed the cameras that Joey told him he wanted to win the first task for the red team – as he wanted to be first to pick the ‘well fit’ contestants.

And so they chose Becky, beauty queen Amy Willerton, and Eastenders’ Laila Morse aka Big Mo.

Thanks to Steve managing the sat nav , the red team won comfortably, winning a final luxury night aboard a yacht before hitting the jungle.

The yellow team Lucy, Kian, Alfonso Ribeiro, TV host Matthew Wright and Royal designer David Emanuel settled down for the night on Spider Island.

Steve Davis apart, Becky Addlington is also one my favourites.

The down-to-earth Olympian politely shook hands with Kian before telling him she was a swimmer. Nothing about her haul of medals in the last two Olympics. Kian nodded politely and smiled. Becky then informed him she had seen him at many Westlife concerts and considered herself a fan.

If there’s any justice in the land of reality TV, it will be the nice guys who win this – ie Becky or Steve.

But unfortunately, Joey and his ultra-white teeth will give them a run for their money.

Let’s hope his teeth don’t blind us all.
