A novice last week told me she had taken beginner's lessons - but nothing after that. Well, there is a good opportunity out there for those who wish to advance: the man in charge is Peter Pigot -and you won't find anyone better.
His next seminar is scheduled for St Pauls, Glenageary on August 8 at 2pm. He then has classes for Progressive Improvers at the RDS commencing on September 21 and for Improvers at St Pauls, Glenageary on September 23. And there are more classes in various venues after that. Call Peter on (086) 814-6230 or PeterPigotBridge@gmail.com. Take my advice and sign up if you have any ambitions.
If you are wondering what happened our under-16 team which was due to play in Norway this week, the reason they didn't travel was one of the players was one week over age. That's very tough luck.
Tom Hanlon has remarkable card sense. Watch what he pulled in Deauville last week. Guess what he opened on the N hand?
Bidding (EW vul)
S W N E P P 1NT X P P 2S X P P 3S X P 3NT 4S X Or something like that. You could never accuse Tom of underbidding and somehow or other he made seven tricks with game rigid for opponents. Ruth Giddings will be cross for showing this hand, but you have to hand it to Kinder for imagination on his way to winning the Pairs with Zia Mahmood.
