Minecraft will be available on Oculus Rift and Gear VR from spring 2016. Mojang made the announcement during a media briefing last night.
How many more platforms can Mojang make Minecraft available on? The hit game has now been announced for the Oculus Rift and Gear VR.
During a media briefing, Mojang revealed that Minecraft will ship on the Rift and Gear VR in spring 2016.
Former Mojang head honcho, Markus “notch” Persson, took to Twitter to state his support for the announcement. “My opinion on minecraft/oculus? Neato!” he tweeted.
This news comes a year-and-a-half after notch himself cancelled a Rift version of the game in protest at Facebook’s $2 billion purchase of Oculus.
Notch’s version of Minecraft on Rift would have been a free version of the world building game, designed to show off and promote virtual reality. He said that the mobile Minecraft development team had worked on a Rift prototype of Minecraft VR Edition.
