Gamemaker: Studio to support Xbox One
YoYo Games today announced Gamemaker: Studio support for Xbox One and enhanced support for current Microsoft platforms.
Gamemaker: Studio is a popular 2D game development framework, allowing novices and pros alike to quickly implement game designs. The framework allows developers to create their game once and export it to a large number of platforms without having to spend resources on costly ports.
The export for Xbox One will be available in the fourth quarter of 2014 to members of Microsoft's licensed Xbox developer programs, including ID@Xbox.
“We’re thrilled that the Xbox developer community now has the ability to use GameMaker,” said Ryan Lowdermilk, Marketing Manager at Microsoft. “With GameMaker already available for Windows Phone and Windows, it gives developers another great way to create games across multiple Microsoft platforms.”
While Gamemaker may once have dwelled in the realm of the hobbyist or beginner game developer, big indie hits such as Hotline Miami, Spelunky and Niddhog have cemented the framework as a credible tool for pro developers.
