In the build up to the latest Destiny expansion, a select group of youtube gamers were given the chance to try out the new powers for 'real'.

At a special "Guardian Training Camp" the youtubers were treated to a day of special effects, replicating the new Titan, Warlock and Hunter class supers.

Using a tesla coil and a voltrex suit, the gamers were able to "wield lightning" like the new Warlock Stormcallers. A glowing perspex bow represented the void powered Hunter Nightstalker and a flaming hammer like the Titan Sunbreaker.

Youtuber Arekkz's experience can be seen below.

The event, hosted by Activision and staged by special effects company MTFX, is the latest in a series of real-world publicity stunts used by major publishers to promote their flagship games. For the release of Destiny, a giant weather balloon was released into the atmosphere to replicate "The Traveller" that sits over the Earth in-game. Ubisoft have taken to promoting their Assassin's Creed games with cosplaying free runners and the latest Call of Duty publicity featured a real-world zombie survival experience. The real-world element is testament to two things: the growth of the multi-billion dollar games industry and the continuing growing prominence of gaming in mainstream culture.

Destiny: The Taken King will add a new story campaign, new locations, new enemies and more, including the three new subclasses mentioned above.

Destiny: The Taken King is released on 15th September for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360
