Former Westife star Nicky Byrne is to present a new mid-morning show on 2FM.
The Nicky Byrne Show will run weekdays from 11am and will replace the Colm Hayes Show which currently occupies that slot.
2FM assure listeners that Hayes has not been ‘axed’ from the station, he is merely being ‘moved around in the new schedule’ and ‘remains a key player in the 2FM re-launch.’
Nicky has previously presented Celebrity Sunday on 2FM in 2010 and filled in for Ryan Tubridy on Tubridy in May of last year.
The singer says he cannot wait to settle into the 2FM studios
“The thought of being on air Monday to Friday is daunting but very, very exciting,” he said. “It is a massive opportunity for me, one in which I hope I can deliver on. Now it's time to start planning, developing and presenting my new show and I really can't wait to get chatting to our listeners."
The news of the latest addition to the 2FM scheduele comes as somewhat of a surprise given last year 2FM boss Dan Healy publically stated he had no intention of giving the Flying Without Wings singer a permanent slot on 2FM.
“Why would we bring in personalities, when we already have some of the biggest personalities in Irish broadcasting?" he said last year. But it seems Healy has changed his tune and now fully backs Byrne.
“I am thrilled that Nicky is joining the team,” he said. “I started to talking to Nicky about 2fm as soon as I arrived. I believe that Nicky will appeal to young audiences through instant likeability and humour. Following our breakfast show announcement last week Nicky is the latest high profile bagging for 2fm....watch this space.”
