First it was the Luas, now it is Tesco – it seems Ireland’s horses just wouldn’t take “Nay” for an answer.

Spotted in Ballinasloe on Tuesday, a man was seen riding his horse into a Tesco store.

The image of the bizarre event was shared by Reddit user PeterTheOstrich with the title "Spotted in Ballinasloe" (a town in County Galway).

Peter Toplis – who uploaded the snap to Imgur – said: "Strange things always happen in Ballinasloe during the horse fair."

The Snapchat picture has since gone viral and has been popping up on sites in the United States and Australia.

Amazingly, fellow shoppers in the background appear more interested in the latest deals than the horse trotting about right in front of them.

A spokesperson for Tesco Ireland said: “We were expecting some visitors from the Ballinasloe Horse Fair to trot into store this week but safe to say this was an unexpected visitor.

"We can confirm that the horse and his companion didn’t stay long enough to do their weekly shop and no damage was caused.”

The Ballinasloe Horse Festival had been on this week so many have taken to blaming Europe’s oldest horse festival for the foal-ish behaviour.
