Viola Davis has lined up two juicy new movie roles.

The 46-year-old actress, who has moved into leading lady territory since her Oscar-nominated performance in The Help, has bagged showy parts in Beautiful Creatures and Ender's Game, reports Variety.

Beautiful Creatures is about a pair of star-crossed teenagers who are dealing with a curse that has bedevilled the girl's family for generations. Viola will star as a librarian who is a friend of the boy.

The actress joins a raft of stars in Ender's Game, as so far Sir Ben Kingsley, Abigail Breslin, Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfield are all attached to the sci-fi thriller.

Gavin Hood's big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card's best-selling novel is about a boy who develops military strategies through war games in an attempt to prepare for an intergalactic battle against "insect-like" aliens.

He and other young people are sent to a military training academy where a psychologist, played by Viola, will oversee their mental wellbeing.
