Oscar documentary films chosen

Thursday November 19 2009

Of the 89 documentary films eligible for Oscar consideration this year, 15 have been selected for a short list of potential nominees.

Some of the year's most popular documentary features were overlooked by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story.

The R-rated film was praised by critics and earned more than 14 million dollars at the box office.

Also omitted from consideration are Tyson, It Might Get Loud and The September Issue.

Among the documentaries still in the running for academy recognition are Facing Ali, Food Inc and Garbage Dreams.

Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards will be announced February 2, 2010.

The awards will be presented March 7.
