NO, that’s not ageing rock star Alice Cooper.

Hollywood actor Sean Penn appeared in lipstick and eyeliner yesterday to play a Goth rockstar on the streets of Dublin.

In ‘This Must Be The Place’, the 50-year-old takes on the role of a music legend living out his retirement in the city.

The cameras rolled on Upper Mount Street as film-makers simulated a blaze in one of the thoroughfare’s elegant Georgian houses.

But the red that caught most people’s eyes was on Penn’s lips: his goth musician ‘Cheyenne’ wearing red lipstick and black eyeliner as he pulled a trolley behind him past the fire.

Bono’s daughter, actress Eve Hewson, is among the cast, playing a music fan who befriends Penn’s character.

Produced by Dublin company Element Pictures, ‘This Must be The Place’ has a budget of €21m but received €500,000 funding from the Irish Film Board.

It is being filmed in Dublin, New York, Detroit and New Mexico and is directed by Paolo Sorrentino, an Oscar nominee in 2008 for his film ‘Il Divo’.
