Jackman steels himself for new role

Tuesday November 24 2009

Hugh Jackman is to swap his Wolverine claws for boxing gloves for his new film, Real Steel.

In the Rocky-inspired tale, the Australia star will play an ex-boxer who gets involved in the world of robot boxing when he finds a bot incapable of losing - he also has to become a dad to the eleven-year-old son he never knew he had.

"It's a rousing sports movie about a former boxer who can no longer do the only job he's good at, and one particular robot that may be his return to grace," director Shawn Levy told Variety.com.

Production for Real Steel, based on a short story by Richard Matheson, is expected to kick off in June 2010.

Hugh fans can get their fix when he appears in Unbound Captives alongside Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson, and in the sequel to Wolverine, expected in 2011.
