Downey Jr and Law 'a good team'

Wednesday December 23 2009

Robert Downey Jr has revealed he enjoyed teaming up with Jude Law to play the "love affair of sorts" between Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.

The duo star in Guy Ritchie's modern interpretation of Conan Doyle's novels, and act like an old married couple at times.

Robert, who plays Sherlock, said: "It's so funny though, because usually I'm used to people saying 'You and this actress had great chemistry' and they're talking about Jude and me like we should be doing romantic comedy together - this film is not a comedy, it's a love affair of sorts."

The 44-year-old said he felt he and Jude were "a good team".

And he went on: "Guy created such a sublime atmosphere on set and we weren't sure it was going to turn out as well as it did, but we really worked at it."

Robert revealed he felt confident taking on the iconic character.

"Sometimes you just feel like you're in the right groove and you feel the history and the legacy of something," he said.

"You feel like you're being silently approved of from some place in time and there were times when we were so locked in to [the original] exactly as Doyle expressed it."

:: Sherlock Holmes is released in cinemas on December 26.
