Channing: We bonded over pull-ups

Tuesday December 08 2009

Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans had pull-up competitions while they were training for GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra.

The actor said he and his co-star bonded while they were worked out for the action movie, about an elite military unit which takes on an evil organisation led by an arms dealer.

He said: "Yeah, we worked pretty hard for GI Joe, that's how we bonded, seeing how many pull-ups we could do - Marlon always beat me but we had fun doing it."

Channing, 29, also revealed he wasn't interested in making a political statement with the film, which is based on the American action figure, comic book and animated series of the same name.

He explained: "That was a big fear of mine before I read the script but it's like X-Men and Independence Day. In these comic book type films, you have a defined villain and a good guy and that's exactly what the film's about, it's not about war.

"It's a huge, intense ride and now more than ever, audiences want to just step out of their lives (when they watch a film)."

:: GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is now available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray.
