Alonso defends Straw Dogs remake

Laz Alonso has defended the remake of film classic Straw Dogs, saying it's a "modernised version".
Sam Peckinpah's acclaimed 1971 film starred Dustin Hoffman and Susan George as a couple who are terrorised on their move to the English countryside.
Asked why Rod Lurie was remaking it, Laz - who will appear in the film - said: "Well it's a little modernised version of the original story."
He continued: "Rod didn't want to stray too far away from the heart and soul of the original story. However it's a Southern United States, Southern Louisiana take on that story and contemporary."
Describing the film, in which he stars with Kate Bosworth and James Marsden, Laz said: "It's very harrowing and it also shows as human beings just how brutal we can be with one another sometimes. When we are fighting for identity and we are fighting to defend our square little plot of land that we think is ours but really it isn't.
"We inherited it and one day we'll be gone and it'll belong to someone else. But while we're here we really make it a bigger deal than it probably should be. So Rod is just a master at showing that in the story."
The new version of Straw Dogs is due out in 2011.
