WATCH: Spectacular tall ships enter Dublin Bay for Riverfest

Daniel McDonald

The arrival of three tall ships and four schooners kicked off the start of Dublin Port Riverfest 2015 kicked today.

The festival takes place throughout the bank holiday weekend, with a packed programme of events taking place on water as well as the quayside.

There will be kayaking sessions which will allow visitors to get up close and personal and experience the tall ships from a unique angle.

The Jeanie Johnson will be offering free tours, and Dublin Bay Cruises St. Bridget will have three trips daily into Dublin Bay.

The programme, by the Dublin Port Company and Docklands Business forum, also includes several activities on land with circus street performers, music from a unique Irish/Nigerian band, as well as face painting and children’s workshops.

Pirate re-enactments will take place all weekend, as well as open air food, craft markets and exhibitions.

There will also be daily performances by the Sukhishvlli Georgian Dancers and Rustavi Georgian Singers on an outdoor stage along North Wall Quay.
