ONE of the biggest stand-up comedy line-ups ever assembled greeted visitors to this year's Cat Laughs Comedy Festival.

All of the tickets were swiftly snapped up for the 20th birthday party event – with people eager to see the antics of Tommy Tiernan, Des Bishop, Dara O Briain and Ardal O'Hanlon.

Co-hosts Barry Murphy – who has performed at all 20 of the Cat Laughs Festival – and Dom Irrera introduced a stellar line-up over three hours at the sold-out event in Cillin Hill, Kilkenny.

It was a case of who wasn't there as the line-up included the best-known comics in Ireland and abroad, such as O Briain, Tiernan, Bishop, O'Hanlon, Neil Delamere, Eleanor Tiernan and Mary Lynn Rajskub, star of Sky 1's '24: Live Another Day'.

The Sky Cat Laughs festival is now firmly ingrained on the comedy scene, with ticket sales up 30pc. Organisers said sales were at their highest level since 2010.

More than 30,000 people are expected in Kilkenny over the weekend, which will see it close on Monday night with the Goodnight Cats gig in Langton's pub in the city.
