Burton bowls over Cameron and Clegg with designer shamrock gift
Social Protection Minister Joan Burton presented British Prime Minister David Cameron with a traditional bowl of shamrock at a reception to celebrate St Patrick's Day at the House of Lords in London yesterday.
The Labour TD was among a scaled-down contingent of eight cabinet ministers who are jetting around the globe this year to promote Ireland on our national holiday.
The London reception was also attended by British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Irish designer Louise Kennedy, who designed the bowl, along with Tourism Ireland chief Niall Gibbons.
The reception, sponsored by Tourism Ireland to promote travel between the two countries, preceded a gala celebration at the Irish Embassy in Britain last night which was hosted by the Irish ambassador to Britain Bobby McDonagh.
Ms Burton will also be among the dignitaries on hand to witness the iconic London Eye going green at sunset this evening.
