Sligo is no stranger to the country's finest in music, dance and fun, and this week-long celebration of energy and creativity showcases all that is best about this remarkable town and its people.

As you will discover in this special magazine, Sligo has a history of nurturing countless musicians, poets and artists, including many of Ireland's biggest creative names. They of course include, in this speciual commemorative year, the great W.B. Yeats.

More recently we have seen Michael Coleman, Dervish, Westlife and Michael Rooney achieve notable success. The success of last year's Fleadh Cheoil has cemented the town's position as the ideal location for a festival of its kind, with its fabulous cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty ensuring a unique destination.

Thanks to a special Sligo spirit of craic and generosity and to the hospitality of all Sligonians, more than 350,000 visitors attended and enjoyed Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2014. This time around, we expect to welcome many more friends, both old and new, from all corners of the country and the world.

The homely and exciting atmosphere experienced by all last August is a testament to both the open arms of the town and to the dedication and energy of its thousands of volunteers, artists and musicians. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Sligo offers the truly unique experience of being welcomed and entertained by an entire community-a place where Yeats' "Romantic Ireland" is alive and well and where old sits comfortably side by side with new.

Nowhere but Sligo can deliver the same enchanting mix of rugged scenery, compelling history, great music and welcoming laughter, situated where we are at the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Tar chugainn don bhFleadh - bain sult as an timpeallacht, an oidhreacht, na sléibhte, na tránna. Buail isteach don seisiún, agus fill orainn arís - beidh fáilte romhat.

I hope that this Fleadh season, you will let Sligo inspire you and set your spirit free! If this is your first taste of Sligo, we extend a Céad Míle Fáilte, and to our returning friends we look forward to seeing you out and about for a tune, a chat and another great Fleadh experience.
