Music: Special Moves by Mogwai * * *
The Scottish post-rock instrumentalists' first live album (with accompanying DVD) goes some way towards capturing their on-stage prowess.
Guitar feedback is the defining sound as the five-piece rock Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg to its foundations. One of their older compositions, Mogwai Fear Satan, is especially well realised and its frenzied intensity recalls My Bloody Valentine in their heyday, while Glasgow Megasnake finds beauty in layered guitar riffs.
The film -- directed by regular Arcade Fire and The National collaborator Vincent Moon -- is clearly the work on an auteur. Mogwai fans will lap it up.
